DID YOU KNOW…?

  • Ballet of York County was formed in 2020 after The School of Ballet and York County Ballet were forced to close due to the pandemic. BYC continues an over 40 year tradition of artistic excellence in community arts education and performance in York County.

  • BYC is a 501.c3 nonprofit, tax-exempt organization consisting of a classical ballet school and performing company.

  • Classes began in the Fall of 2020, first outdoors in a field at the Anne Springs Close Greenway and then at the Rock Hill First ARP Church gymnasium. BYC now has a new home studio located at 420 Dave Lyle Boulevard. This unused building has been transformed into a modern ballet studio for the community, extending the arts district of beautiful downtown Rock Hill.

  • BYC’s first live performance, The Nutcracker Reimagined, was in May 2021. Despite limited seating due to pandemic restrictions, the retelling of this classic tale was performed for sold out audiences and live streamed to many more! The Nutcracker will be performed again this December. In its 40 year history in York County, The Nutcracker has been performed over 240 times and thousands of young dancers have participated in the tradition! In addition, BYC will continue to perform original classical ballets each Spring.

  • Due to economic conditions, operating costs continue to rise. Performance revenue accounts for very little of Ballet of York County’s operating budget. BYC must raise the remaining portions of its yearly expenses from tuition, fundraising and contributions.

  • The Ballet of York County Guild was formed to help provide the necessary additional financial support to Ballet of York County. BYC must rely on the generosity of patrons and fans to continue to provide high quality live dance performances for our community.
